Her powerful piece Awestruck Before an Unforgettable Nubian Queen – From Gee’s Bend to Royalty (2021) won Best of Show at the Atlanta Quilt Festival and now lives in the permanent collection of the High Museum. Another standout work, Three Great Leaders in the Struggle for Freedom, also earned Best of Show in 2023.

  • Meet Myla Chapman, one of the talented quilters featured in Stitching Our Story: A Celebration of Black History. Myla began her quilting journey in the late 1990s after years of sewing clothing, eventually finding her passion in art quilts. Through decades of learning, experimenting with techniques, and being an active member of local quilt guilds for over 20 years, her love for quilting has always been rooted in both creation and community.

Her featured piece, An Irregular River Runs Thru It – Kamby Bolongo, flows with rich greens and browns, capturing movement, texture, and storytelling within its 36” x 18” design. Even today, Myla continues to find joy in exhibits and shows—celebrating quilting as a shared cultural and artistic experience.

Meet Myla Chapman, one of the talented quilters featured in Stitching Our Story: A Celebration of Black History. Myla began her quilting journey in the late 1990s after years of sewing clothing, eventually finding her passion in art quilts. Through decades of learning, experimenting with techniques, and being an active member of local quilt guilds for over 20 years, her love for quilting has always been rooted in both creation and community.

Her featured piece, An Irregular River Runs Thru It – Kamby Bolongo, flows with rich greens and browns, capturing movement, texture, and storytelling within its 36” x 18” design.
